According to the 2000 U.S. Census, The median income of families maintained by women with no husband present continued to be lower than that of other families. The median family income for female householders with no husband present in 1999 was $25,500, about half of the family income of all families and less than half of married-couple families. After adjusting for inflation, this amount was also less than the median family income of married-couple families in 1969 ($39,800). Most single mothers come to us in a state of emotional or financial crisis. We seek to meet this short term need, but more importantly to assist them by developing long term solutions.
While the majority of the clients we serve are single mothers, we also desire to aid the increasing number of single fathers who have sole custody of their children by providing support services to meet their unique needs.
Thank you for suporting single moms

My brother is the single father of two boys ages 5 and 6. (mother is addict who lives in another state) He has been doing this for three years and the boys have gone in and out of foster care twice. He recently had an accident at work, leaving his right hand with an amputated finger and two fingers now practically useless. Because his boss has no insurance, he will receive no benefits and is now somewhat disabled and is now depressed. My brother loves his kids, but is so completely overwhelmed by caring for them and living paycheck to paycheck and this accident seems to have hit him hard. He lives in south LA county. Do you know of any way to get him help? It seems every charity is for single moms… (childcare? counseling? legal help?)
First, we want to affirm you for being a loving, concerned sister!
Your brother should seek social services to help him while he gets back on his feet. Many of our parents in similar situations go to the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services. Another avenue we would recommend is phoning 2-1-1, a social service info hotline run by United Way. They should be able to help him find services/organizations that can help him.
Best wishes to you!
Hello, I have a quick question for you about your site. If you could please get back to me at your earliest convenience I would greatly appreciate it. Have a great day!
